Welcome to the River Bend Film Festival. The only festival of its kind in Northern Indiana, it is open to anyone who makes shorts or features, including students of all ages.

Workshops

All workshops take place on Saturday in and around the Recital Hall. The Makeup and Lighting workshops run simultaneously. Details and rooms T.B.A.

2:00 p.m. - “Special FX Makeup for Film” presented by Andy Swisher. Attendees of this workshop will learn how to apply latex prosthetic pieces to simulate wounds and how to use wrinkle stipple to create age defying effects.

Andy Swisher has worked on many local films and haunted houses specializing in makeup effects. He is currently studying theatre at Indiana University South Bend.

2:00 p.m. – “Shooting the Scene: Four People, a Table and a Camera” presented by Lynn King & Joel Langston. This workshop will focus on the successful shooting of a most difficult scenario: Multiple people sitting around a table and talking. We will cover topics such as: shot selection and shoot order, directed lighting, lighting of the space and lighting a close up, the 180 degree rule, framing of shots, and coverage.

Lynn King is a director of photography for the South Bend production company, New Group Media.  She holds an MFA in Cinematography from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles and a BA in film/video from Columbia College Chicago.  She has worked in Los Angeles as a freelance DP for film shorts with Larry Levinson Productions and  movies-of-the-week for the Hallmark Channel.

Joel Langston has worked in the filmed media industry for 9 years. He worked his way up the ladder in the lighting department on films in Los Angeles and worked as the Gaffer (Chief Lighting Technician) for 3 years on more than 12 feature length films. He is now a Multimedia Consultant for students. and faculty at Indiana University, South Bend

4:00 p.m. – “Make Your Own Damn Movie!” Mini Master Class presented by special guest Lloyd Kaufman.
